Two ladies admire Church End Well dressed with the theme 'Return of the Dove'. This is a biblical reference to the story of Noah's Ark - Genesis 8:11: 'And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.'

The photographer recorded this view with the description: 'Snap today. Un-paid working men designed & made this dressed Well at Bradwell, who claim it is the best in Derbyshire and better than the Barlow well [near Chesterfield], where police charged the men last year, for taking the collections and dividing it among themselves. Barlow this year are to dress another well, and again divide the money taken, among the men who made it, instead of the Church Fund.'
