A study of old maps suggests this view was taken from the Down (southbound) platform at the now closed Sheepbridge and Whittington Moor railway station and is looking north-east towards Foxley Oaks. This is the floodplain of the River Whitting, which has clearly burst its banks. The industrial buildings in the middle distance were a sawmill at this date but the site later became a scrapyard.
