Floodwater inundating Station Road, Whittington Moor, probably caused by the nearby River Whitting overflowing its banks. This view is looking north towards Whittington Hill and Old Whittington from close to the railway bridge carrying the Chesterfield-Sheffield main line over the road. Several horse-drawn carts can be seen negotiating the water in the background.

Website contributor John Cuttriss adds (December 2013): 'This picture would have been taken from the refuge of the Sheepbridge Station Down (southbound) line walkway that took passengers from the road up to the platform - the wooden gatepost can be seen in the bottom left corner. Also on the left is the end of the stonework of the railway bridge and travelling towards Old Whittington are some bay-windowed terraced houses that are still there today. The houses to the right have since made way for the entrance to commercial premises.'
