One of Nottingham's most prolific 19th-century architects, Hine worked during a period when the city was growing at an unprecedented rate to keep pace with industrial expansion and the massive influx of people who came here to seek employment. His influence is still very much felt today, his work including much of the Lace Market and the renovation of Nottingham Castle and its grounds in 1875.
