Taken during pedestrianisation. Wright was a genre and portrait painter, born in Derby in 1734. He remained in Derby for most of his life, until his death in 1797. He is best known for his industrial scenes such as 'The Air Pump' (1768, Tate, London), and his treatment of artificial light.
